Grid structured packing คือวัสดุที่ใช้ในหอกลั่น มีลักษณะเป็นแผ่นตะแกรงที่มีโครงสร้างซับซ้อน มันรวมข้อดีของ 2 อย่างเข้าด้วยกัน:

• พื้นที่ผิวสูง: เหมือนกับ structured packing ทั่วไป ทำให้การถ่ายเทความร้อนและมวลสารมีประสิทธิภาพสูง

• โครงสร้างที่แข็งแรง: เหมือนกับตะแกรง (grid) ทำให้ทนทานต่อการใช้งานหนัก

มันจึงเหมาะกับการใช้งานที่รุนแรงและมีปัญหาบ่อย ๆ เช่น:

• อุดตัน (plugging): ทนทานต่อการอุดตันได้ดี

• การเกิดคราบถ่าน (coking): พื้นผิวเรียบ ช่วยลดการสะสมของเหลวและลดโอกาสเกิดคราบถ่าน
